Background

The Beishan Orogen is located in the southernmost part of the Altaids, and connects the Southern Tianshan suture to the west and the Solonker suture to the east. The tectonic evolution of the Beishan Orogen is crucial for understanding the history of the southern Altaids.

Main objectives:

1) Understanding the accretionary structures and subduction-related magmatism;

2) Studying the geological implications of eclogites and granulites; and

3) Unraveling the accretionary tectonics and temporal-spatial characteristics of the southern Altaids.

Itinerary:Beijing/Urumqi-Hami-Dunhuang, NW China.
